Our first campout of the year was at Craven World Campground, near Craven SK, one of my favourite campgrounds, and always our first campout of the year. It is close to Regina and is a good shakeout campground to make sure our units are ready for the season.
We always book the same area - back-in with full service on the left, pull-thru with water and electric on the right:
On the other side of the pull-thrus is a wonderful open area, partially treed, where we can have evening campfires, play beanbag baseball, bocce ball, etc. There is also a lovely walking trail, free mini-golf course, and a minimal cost quonset which includes a camp kitchen where we have our potlucks and other activities. The cost is reasonable and the sites are a decent size, so we can each host morning coffee or happy hour if it is our turn. The owner comes around the first day and delivers tables to those that want them and a fire pit and firewood for our campfires. We pay for the firewood.
Here is our itinerary for this campout:
Craven World Campout – Itinerary
May 21 to 24, 2024
Fred is bringing his telescope so that anyone interested can observe the massive solar flares
and sunspots that are visible this year. His telescope has all the necessary filters to view the
sun safely. This will be dependent on the cloud cover so we will let everyone know in a group
text when it is happening. (The clouds didn't co-operate - we didn't get a chance to observe the flares.)

The next morning a bunch of us gathered to play card bingo. I don't remember who won - it wasn't me!
In the afternoon we played mini-golf. This year we awarded trophies to the highest male score and the highest female score. I presented the trophies, as Harv and I ran the game. Here I am presenting the trophies:
Harv (male winner), Nancy (me!), Rilla (female winner), Gus (providing the sound system), and Marlene C:
That night we had a weiner roast and I was finally able to get a picture of Darryl and Pat G, who were missing from the potluck. The other two partially in the picture on the left are Roger and Marlene C:
It rained for a while the next day, but when it stopped it was still dry enough for us to set up the bocce ball set and play a few games:
After the afternoon games every day we had happy hour before supper. The "Get to know each other" segments were very interesting and we learned a lot about each other.
The last night a bunch of us went out for supper in Lumsden at the Lumsden Steak Pit.
